Photography and nudity have been intertwined since the invention of photography, but one should note that nudity alone does not make a sensual image. So, what is Sensuality? For me, sensuality firstlyprovides the fire that feeds the soul and at its heart is sexuality, the creative spark. And secondly the sensual image will appeal to both the senses and the imagination, and finally celebrates the human figure in all its glory. This combination and the fact that we all respond differently meansthere is not a definite line as to what images is sensual or not. For erotic photography to exist, it has to be realised that it's a consenting action, firstly between the photographer and the consenting model (who has signed the model release for the shoot), and secondly with the viewer. The resultant erotic photo onlyacquires a sense of sensuality with theviewer.

Artists throughout time have been fascinated with creating sensual erotic nudes whether for public or private consumption and today's photographers (and artists in other medias) are no different. All are content to create sensual erotic nudes, mixing nudity and eroticism to produce sensuality and to explore the sheer celebration of erotic beauty itself. As a rule repetition does not enhance sensuality, so one should take care not to repeat someone else'sphotographic image exactly. As a social erotic photographer myself, I try to create sensual erotic images where possible.

Although the early days of the internet saw the growth of numerous so called erotic sites swamping the net, these had little or nothing to do with promoting sensuality; they merely dealt with explicit imagery that had no artistic value. Today it is a different story and the net is a more mature location, and there has been an explosion of quality art websites displaying and promoting sensual erotic nudes and therefore providing a positive alternative to theadult sites. These are sites where genuine sensual female nudes are created by thought provoking artists of both genders, The sites can either be the artist's own website or an agent's that is promoting many artists (similar to the traditional notion of an agent marketing his/her stable of talented artists).

Anyone can produce a sensual erotic nude. And regardless of whether the consenting nude image has been produced professionally to order or created for artistic reasons, one has to remember the resultant image is after all onlysubjective and the final verdict belongs with the viewer.
