Sometimes a guy will surprise you and show a sentimental side that you never thought existed

. If you happen to have found such a guy, then finding a sentimental birthday gift for him can be one of the greatest presents he ever receives.

So what do guys get sentimental about?

If you have a long history with the guy, the first thing he might get sentimental about are some of the memorable moments you've spent together.

A great example of this would be that perfect holiday you had two years ago where you spent 14 magical nights cruising the waters of the Caribbean.

Try and think of a way to find a gift that evokes these memories. Do you have any photos from that trip which you could get blown up and framed?

Maybe there was a particular exotic dish that he really enjoyed - try and find a restaurant in town that is well renowned for exactly that dish.

Guys tend to get sentimental about sports - hard as that may be to believe. I know my partner has great memories from some of the sporting trips he has taken with his mates.

If there's one in particular that he seems to mention more often than others (and you were paying enough attention that you actually remember what it was), maybe try and find some sort of gift that encapsulates that sporting moment.

Sometimes we can all get a bit sentimental about a certain place where we spent time as a child. If you don't know of such a place for him, get in touch with some of his family and do a bit of research.

Maybe you'll learn of a favourite holiday spot that he hasn't been to in twenty years. A surprise trip there would be a wonderfully sentimental birthday gift for him.

Finding him a gift with sentimental value is always going to take a little more work than your regular gift. But if you care enough about him, this work will always be worth it.
