Although most people maybe vaguely aware of it, there are actually ways by which you can increase traffic to your site without having to spend so much. All you need is time and proper website architecture planning.

If you are doing your own site design, one of the things that you have to consider is the type of model you would like your site to have. You can choose from flat, index, strict hierarchy or multi-dimensional hierarchy. Of the three, the multi-dimensional hierarchy is the most widely used. It allows visitors to visit other pages from a starting home page and does away with the need to re-trace their steps should they want to come back visit other pages.

It is also a good idea to keep in mind that not all that glitters can be good for your site architecture. Too much flash animation and graphics can even be harmful to your sites traffic. For one, animations and graphics do not carry much weight with search engine bots, spiders and indexers. Second, they can take up too much loading time that your visitors would end up going to another site instead. A way to work around this is to just minimize the use of images and stay as much as possible away from flash animations.

Doing your own web services architecture would also mean that you have to be familiar with writing meta tags. Although some search engines do not put much emphasis on this, it is still a good way to let them know what your site is all about. This, of course, would require you to do keyword research. Be careful, however, when picking out which keywords to use as the wrong one can spell the end for your site. Choose keywords that are high ranking and yet with lesser competition.

Lastly, make sure also that your site architecture contains a search box where your visitors can just type in what they are searching for. Keep in mind that part of a good site architecture is the ability to have your clients get the information that they need with as few clicks as possible.
