Set Long Term Goals - Leave Your Past At The Gate

When you're focussing on the long term goal of creating a company it can be simple

to set the rest of your life on hold and wait to start living until you have extra money and/or more success. But what if you made every day be your greatest performance? Then you would no longer be waiting for some future day thats more significant than this day but wholly taking part in life.

To be able to do that you must ask yourself what it could require to meet your long-term goals if you took steps every day, and then make a game around that to ensure that those steps get taken. Then you shift from focussing on the future to entirely engaging in your daily activity. Rather than picturing some future that's really significant you're making the present what life is about.

Your life is a twenty four hours one. You are born when you awaken in the morning and "die" into deep sleep at night time. The time between is the time you get to construct the life you really desire. If theres some future date that will help you shape your activities today thats fine, but do not fritter away time feeling scared of the future and allowing that to keep you back. Take the fear out of the dream and produce a project that you are able to accomplish today.

Not doing something due to fear is a regular excuse. Grown ups think being fearful of a thing is a reason not to attempt it. As we get older we find increasingly that any worry or a mere sense of disquiet or of just feeling uncomfortable, will block us. You can achieve anything you are afraid of if you really would like to or if the thing itself means more than your fear of doing it. Contrary to accepted belief there is no correlation between the fear of doing something and if we are able to or not able to do it.

Also, protect against thoughts becoming personality traits. All you really need to establish is what you would enjoy doing today. That is all you've got. It does not matter what you did in the past. You can start all over again every morning and ask yourself what would be a good day? What activities do you need to perform so that you can go to bed feeling pleased with having finished them? Then go and do those things immediately and the rest of the day you can relax. You can be a slacker but if you do the critical things first you will still feel pleased with yourself.

This requires practice but as soon as you follow through on this on sufficient individual days, even though it feels unusual or disagreeable or not the true you, you will reach a position where it turns into the real you. Where it is more disagreeable to live the old way than it is to follow the new way.

While you are learning it's vital to be ready to not get irritated or upset if the former way seeps back in. It happens to everybody. That is what you did in the past. You do not ever need to do that yet again. You can have life be as if that never happened and go forward in view of that. What you are going to do this day is the single thing that matters. When you do it the new way enough times you get to a position when, although you cannot recollect when it happened, the new way has become the permanent way.

Coach yourself and practice and you can bring your future reality into who you are and what you are doing today. There is no reason to delay.
