Setting Basic Criteria When Selecting Your College Part 9
It is obvious that being human beings, we all have different perspective and preferences that makes us a unique person
. Is it right then to base your decisions about a college on the opinion of others alone? A personal visit could make a world of difference. What others may have missed out on the college campus, you might notice and you might find it interesting. Perhaps your friend who gave his opinion of the college never noticed something as he was not interested in it, but maybe it is your hobby and you would love to explore that opportunity. You wouldn't get to know about it unless you make a personal visit.
This is part 9 of the series that explains the basic criteria to be considered when selecting a college. This article discusses the need for visiting colleges before making finalizing a college.
When to visit
The best time to start visiting colleges is during your junior years or during summer holidays. Local colleges can be visited easily at any time. For colleges that are far off, check for opportunities where you can combine your personal (e.g. family gatherings and vacations) or professional trips (e.g. business trip, seminar related to business) with college visits. However, this requires thinking beforehand. Costs and distance may prevent your visits to all the shortlisted colleges but try to visit as many as possible to get a better idea about the college.
What to check
The previous parts of this article have provided for various criteria for selecting your college. Judge your college based on these criteria. However, do not jump to conclusions quickly. Take your time to visit the entire campus and understanding all aspects before arriving at any conclusion regarding a college.
College visits can help you to make your own judgments about a college and hence, a personal visit would be ideal before finalizing your decision.
