Seven Legal Internet Marketing Ideas- What is Affordable? What is Effective?

Seven Legal Internet Marketing Ideas- What is Affordable

? What is Effective?

The Internet has several vehicles of legal advertising and it is important to know the sources and players. I have outlined several sources that you should consider. Of course, whatever you do advertise, make sure it is within your applicable legal ethics rules.

1. Google Adwords and the like

The most popular means of advertising is through Google Adwords. I have used Google Adwords with success and I think it is also a great way to promote a practice. Adwords allows you to customize your ad, provide the content, name the price, name a monthly budget, and choose the location and demographic of people that should be targeted. Your Adwords ads will appear in Google searches,Gmail, and the many sites that use Google Adsense. Google Adsense is the advertising tool that displays the Google Adword ads. For an example of Google Adsense/Adwordsads, just look to the right of this text- I use a Google Adsense account on this blog. I have targeted the ads to a legal audience across the United States. If someone clicks on the ad, I receive a small amount of money from Google, which is basically determined by the traffic to my blog and the number of times the ad is clicked. Google also chargesthe person that owns the Adwords account fee each time someone clicks on my ad. It is a brilliant system that has created an entire "Google economy." Many other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing have similar ideas, but Google is king and should be used first and perhaps exclusively. Facebook also has targeted ads, but personally, I think people are more likely to look for attorneys through search engines rather than social media websites. The ads, however, have an incentive-based setup, so there is not too much risk in trying Facebook ads. There are also tons of promotional campaigns and coupons out there for these services, so "Google" them. Other than ads, here are some other ideas:

2. Make a blog.

A good blog can make you a mini-celebrity. You would not believe the amount of people that will read your blog. In fact, I have a friend that makes nearly six figures off ad revenue from six blogs that he writes and manages. He is successful because he knows how to reach a target audience and knows how to write content that interests others. There are free blog sharing services, like NetworkedBlogs, that can increase your readership. If you write well and show some knowledge and expertise, people will be impressed and your business will grow. Plus, blogging is fun! Askyour computer guy to ad a blog to your site, or try Blogger or Wordpress for free.

3. Get listed on a free legal directory.

You want as much exposure on the Internet as possible, so free legal directories are a good idea. Don't ever pay to be listed on a directory unless you can see tangible results. There are too many legal directories that charge you to park your site with a blind hope that it will bring you clients. I think it is more cost-efficient to stick to the free legal directories.

4. Build content to your site and use SEO strategies

Content on your website (blogs, articles, legal Q/A, etc) comes up in search engines, so add a lot of it. In addition to adding content, ensure your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is up to date. SEO requires that you put target terms in your content as well as your keywords, description, and meta tags that are picked up by search engines. The keywords, description, and meta tags text are not found in the visible content of your website, but they are picked up by search engines, so it is important to add them. SEO can be somewhat difficult to learn and hard to perfect. You can consider hiring SEO companies to do it for you. There are domestic companies ($$$$) and foreign companies ($) that will do this for you. You can outsource to save money, if you are comfortable with it. If so, I think Eastern Europe tends to be a better option over India for a variety of reasons, but that is another blog.

5. Newsletter

You can also create a free e-newsletter to stay in touch with current and former clients. I suggest that you compile the email addresses that you currently have to create a subscription list. Then, you should consider adding a link to your site that would allow someone to easily subscribe.

6. Referral Systems

Local bar associations usually provide good referral service programs. Most private referral systems are required to register with state bar associations and are highly regulated. In some states, private referral systems are prohibited. If you come across a referral system and are thinking about using it, you should check with your bar association to make sure it is authorized. If you are not sure, then I would not risk suffering the pain of legal ethics committees.

7. Matching Systems

Legal matching is not a referral, but a service that matches clients with attorneys without any input or preference. In referrals, the bar association makes the choice rather than a client, but in matching services, the choices are left to the consumers and attorneys.JDFinder.com is a matching service and we never provide advice, guidance, or preference to clients regarding which attorney to hire. We obviously believe that matching systems are the way to go. However, some matching services, like LegalMatch.com requireastronomicalannual dues. The minimum annual fee at LegalMatch.com is currently $2,500 and maximum fees can reach $10,000. The goal is to provide a matching service that allows attorneys to register for free, view claims for free, and only pay a minimal fee to contact a client. We may not have thestatus of LegalMatch.com, but with the right pricing, we can make it there. Please visithttp://jdfinder.com/about_jdfinder.php to learn more information.
