Seven Tips to Get The Best Results From Your Teeth Whitening Treatment
Seven Tips to Get The Best Results From Your Teeth Whitening Treatment
1. Use a tooth whitening system that uses custom trays and takes longer to whiten your teeth. A two week treatment is recommended rather than a quick one hour treatment as the longer it takes for your teeth to whiten the longer the results will last. Your teeth will stay whiter for longer if they whiten gradually. It's also important to use customised whitening trays as these are made to fit your teeth so are therefore more comfortable and ensure overall whitening in hard to reach places. Custom whitening trays also reduce the chance of sensitive gums as the trays end at your gum line unlike boil and bite trays which come up past the gum line.
2. Use carbamide peroxide whitening gel. High Street whitening gels contain sodium perborate which is just a surface cleaner. Carbamide peroxide oxidises the stains from within resulting in long lasting, naturally white teeth.
3. Avoid dark coloured foods and drinks. During a tooth whitening treatment teeth become more porous so drinking dark drinks such as coffee, red wine and tea can dramatically reduce the effect of the whitening treatment. It's best to avoid all dark coloured food and drinks during the entire two week treatment but if this is difficult then leave at least three hours between wearing your whitening trays and having a coffee or a glass of red wine.
4. Use a gentle non abrasive whitening toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Your teeth can feel more sensitive during a whitening treatment so use toothpaste specifically for sensitive teeth. You can also use remineralising gel in your whitening trays to reduce sensitivity. If your gums are very sensitive during the whitening process rubbing vitamin E on them will help.
5. Try not to measure the shade of your teeth everyday. If you look in the mirror everyday and measure the whiteness with your shade guide you're unlikely to notice much of a difference day by day. use the shade guide or take a photo before your whitening treatment and then again two weeks later. You'll certainly notice a difference and be more impressed with the results.
6. Don't panic if your teeth appear patchy during the whitening process. Its common for teeth to look a little patchy throughout the whitening process but this does even out once the whitening treatment is complete after two weeks.
7. Maintain your whiter brighter smile by brushing your teeth twice a day with an electric toothbrush, rinsing your mouth after dark coloured food and drinks and topping up your whitening treatment every six months.
