In an x-ray test, the machine that is used produces particles that are called photons

. The protons pass through the body of the patient. The images from the test are transferred to a specialized computer or an X-ray film. The x-rays are usually used in medical field to identify the abnormalities in the patient's body. The x-rays are usually used for diagnostic purpose.

When you are about to do the x-ray test, there are some things that you should do before taking the image form the x-rays. The followings are some things that you should do make sure that you will do the correct procedures for an x-ray test.

1. You should measure the X-ray before applying it so that you will get a safe measurement. You have to make sure that you an X-ray radiation apron or vest during the test. This will prevent the levels of high radiation that are produced to be absorbed by your body. You must also be sure that you turn the X-ray operating console and make sure that it is properly calibrated.

2. You should look for the film holder to place the x-ray film. Before positioning the patient an X-ray capture, you have to make sure that the film is inserted the film holder. You will find that this is almost impossible for an x-ray technician to forget this procedure that can cause an unwanted repeat X-rays. If this happens, you and the patient will get more radiation.

3. You should instruct the patient to lay in the position that is needed for a certain X-ray. You should guide him/her by moving his/her body part that will be examined. For example, you should take the patient's right arm and place it above her head if you are about to test his/her right shoulder. By guiding him/her, you will get the better result of the x-ray image. This would be a better way than telling the patient what he/she has to do.

4. You should position the arm and tube of the x-ray at the body part that is tested so that you will get the image. If the patient is properly positioned, you can move the X-ray arm and focus it on body part that you will test.

5. You should instruct the patient to be still during the process. This is because a certain movement can cause artifacts. These are fuzzy spots in the X-ray film. When there are artifacts in the film, you might have to repeat the test.
