Several Steps in Doing the Engraving

Engraving is the type of intaglio printmaking process where you cut into lines on

the smooth metal plate that then catch ink when you polish it over the surface of a plate. Then, you need to use a printing press in order to create the paint of the engraving. You have to involve more practices trough it, then you may teach your self in doing engraving if you have the best tools. To help you more, here are some easy steps that you can read to do the engraving so that you can do it by yourself. Pay attention on it.

For the first step, you need to sketch the image on the piece of tracing paper with a soft pencil. After that, moisten a cloth with the mineral spirits then cut it on the cake of beeswax.

For the next step, you have to cut the cloth on a plate. Share out the light coat of beeswax to it. After that, place a tracing paper on the metal plate with a pencil drawing facing down.

Then, transfer your drawing to the plate by cutting it with the bone rubbing tool. A pencil drawing may appear on a plate. You can use the etching needle in inscribing the right guidelines of the drawing into the metal plate.

For the last step, choose the burin that will give you the thickness that you want and will effects for the drawing as this kind of engraving tools vary widely. After that, you can cut thicker engraved lines in with the burin, to brush away every burr that you create so you do not starch the plate.
