It is important for you to know how to properly read them so that you can get on top of problems and repairs before they become too severe. As the first step, you need to turn on your car and then let it run for several minutes. You should know that the car gages only can work properly when your car is running.

The second step that you should do is to check oil pressure gage in your car. This oil pressure gage is placed on the right side of most cars beside the speedometer. This oil pressure gage commonly has the symbol of oil that can below it. Also, you need to make note about where the needle is correctly pointed on the white dial. If you find that it is pointed too low or to the left, it indicates that there is a loss or lack of oil pressure. Thus, you will know that your oil system or oil pan may be damaged so that it needs to be repaired.

The third step is to read the temperature gage of your car. In this step, you also need to make note about where the location of the needle on this instrument is. It must be less than halfway up of the white dial and also under 200 degrees Fahrenheit. If you find that it goes above that number, it means that your radiator is failing so hat it should be replaced.

Lastly, you should read your battery voltage gage which is placed below or above the oil gage. You have to make sure that the reading is relatively high on the white dial. It is generally between 12 and 24 volts that depend on the battery of your car. If you find that the reading is low, it means that your car battery is dead, or the alternator of your car could be failing.
