Seville, Spain: A Must-see Spanish City

Located in the southwest region of the country

, Seville was a crucial settlement of various groups, including the Romans. It became particularly important after the New World was discovered, and became the main port for colonial trade, during the early 1700s. Today, the population of Seville is roughly 700,000.

While vacationing in Seville, there are several must-see attractions that you should include on your itinerary. They include the Cathedral, Torre de Oro, Alcazar, Plaza de Espana, Archivo de Indias, Antigua Fabrica de Tabacos, and Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza. Visiting these attractions during your vacation in Spain will make it complete.

Besides the various sightseeing spots in Seville, you'll also likely want to do some shopping. Stores are typically open from about 10AM - 2:00 PM, and again from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. However, you can still find some stores that are open continuously throughout the day. That includes El Corte Ingles, an enormous department store. Besides these large stores, you could also visit the smaller artisan shops as well.

When the sun sets, you might be interested in the nightlife of Seville. The current weather in the city has a huge impact on which areas are hot spots. For instance, many people travel to the river, for cooler summer temperatures; and to bars in the winter, to keep warm.

What weather should you expect while staying in Seville? Unless you're able to bear extremely hot temperatures, you shouldn't visit the city in July and August. In fact, even locals tend to stay out of the sun during these months. On the other hand, the wintertime tends to boast of pleasant temperatures, although it may also include some rain.

When you're out and about, you'll need to know about transportation throughout the city. It's highly recommended that you secure maps, and bus and train schedules from the Seville tourist office. They have this information in several languages, and as an added bonus, it's free! You can find the tourist office down the street from the Seville Cathedral.

Another option you could take when traveling in Seville, is walking from one tourist spot to another one. That's because nearly all of the tourist sites in the city are within walking distance. If you use this option when touring Seville, make sure to bring a detailed map with you. As a word of caution, keep in mind that maps frequently "straighten" streets that aren't exactly straight in real life.

Before departing for Seville, make sure to book your holiday apartment online. That will guarantee you a place to stay once you arrive in Spain.
