Sew Label Therapy

Therapy can come in many different forms. The definition of therapy is any act, hobby, task, or program that relieves tension; that leaves room for a lot of tasks to be considered therapeutic. Collecting and sewing on sew labels is just my way of relieving tension. Clothing labels, custom labels, and emblems are all okay to me as long as I get to sew labels during the course of my hectic week.

Having two children, I barely have time for myself, so a few years ago I came up with my sew label hobby when my daughter had an unfortunate accident. While riding her bike she skinned her knee and ripped her jeans in the process. Well, after much crying, Band-Aids and lollipops, I set out to fix the brand new Oshkosh B'gosh jeans that now possessed a great hole in the knee. As I contemplated sewing the hole together I realized that it would only make the jeans look old and worn so I came up with another idea. I hauled myself over to the nearest mall, walked into the Disney store and searched for some custom labels, emblems, or clothing labels that I might have been able to sew over the gaping hole. To my disappointment the store carried none of these items.

After aimlessly wandering the store I finally asked the cashier where I could obtain some custom labels with the Disney emblems on them, and she gave me a link to a US manufacturer of custom labels website. I quickly went home and jumped online. To my amazement they actually had textile manufacturers that specialized in the art of custom labels, emblems, clothing labels, and sew labels. There were all different types of them as well; rubber, PVC, and even eco-friendly green labels as well. I found that pocketbooks, hats, shirts, key chains, and jeans were all popular items to sew labels on, and I began to feel excitement grow within me. I quickly ordered a little bit of everything that I happened to see at first glance; some rubber key chains made from flexible PVC, some eco-friendly patches, some Disney custom labels, and even some custom clothing labels with my favorite brand names for my own apparel. Not only did I buy sew labels but I bought iron-on, heat seal transfer labels as well, I just couldn't resist.

After waiting a daunting two days, my custom labels, clothing labels, emblems, and sew labels, along with my iron-ons arrived. I quickly grabbed my daughter's jeans and sewed the custom patch with the Disney emblem over the hole in the knee and felt quite satisfied with my new hobby. The jeans looked brand new, and even better than they looked when I first bought them; I even considered sending a photo to the Oshkosh B'gosh Company to maybe give them some design ideas for their next fall line, but then reconsidered; I wanted this newfound design to be uniquely mine. Now I sew labels on everything I own and all of my girl's accessories as well. I have definitely contributed a huge amount to the US manufacturers of custom patches, yet it is still cheaper to use them for my love of labels as opposed to spending so much money on clothing labels bought from department stores, and I wouldn't give up my sew label therapy for the most expensive clothing label in the world.
