Teach your child to be assertive. This can protect your kids from internet predators when you are not around. You can only protect your children up to a point. When they're out at school or in other social settings, they will be exposed to other influences and will be on their own. Teach them coping skills and encourage them to stand on their own feet. Kids who are more assertive and confident are often avoided by bullies (cyber or otherwise) because they prefer the shy, seemingly weak ones to target.

The actual definition of a stalker is anyone who lavishes excessive amounts of unwanted or unsolicited attention on another person. This is even true of internet attention. Regardless of where this attention comes from it can be considered stalking if it is in fact excessive, unwanted or threatening in nature.

A study by McCarthy and Taylor (1999) indicates that an avoidant/ambivalent attachment style related more highly to child abuse than did the relationship difficulties of the parent.

By understanding the rules of staying safe, while online they are able to use the tools without jeopardizing their safety. You as a parent need to be able to utilize your computer without the worry of your children being influenced by a sexual predator.

The click of a mouse and a few careless moves by your child can put him in a sticky situation.

Rest assured that a highly skilled and trained investigator can get the information that is necessary to stop these stalkers and therefore prevent or at least prolong another person from being subjected to the same intimidation. If you do nothing about this occurrence how can you expect anyone else to?
