What makes squeeze pages sexy? For anyone trying to build their list, a squeeze page may not look like a million bucks, but if it does the job, it's sexy as a supermodel in a sharkskin swimsuit. (try saying that ten times fast)...
But if you've ever slapped a "done for you" squeeze page up onto your site and saw pitiful conversions, you might be jaded against squeeze pages... I've heard this objection enough times to take it seriously:
"Why would I put up squeeze pages if my traffic's just going to get stopped there? I'd rather have 100 people get to my sales funnel every day than the ten making it through my squeeze pages!"
Well, the first thing I would say is - "You should have more like 50 people out of every hundred making it through any of your squeeze pages. And those 50 people are more valuable to your business long term than fleeting, fickle traffic, and we all know why...
When you use squeeze pages right, you'll be building your list FAST - and that means you can sell to those people every day if you want, but more importantly, you can build a relationship, and really cultivate that list over time.
So, how can you put the sexy back in your squeeze pages, to eliminate the barrier of crappy conversions?
Simple:
Be simple.
I hate to be so zen about my answer, but I think that - at least from what I've seen - most people get too fancy with squeeze pages, when really, they should be one of the simplest steps in your marketing funnel.
Squeeze pages need three things:
1) An optin form (obviously)
2) A reason to optin
3) There is no third thing, you just need an optin form and a reason people should opt in.
When you boil it down, that's as complicated as you need to get to start. Of course, then comes the fun part: Testing your squeeze pages...
Here's an example of a squeeze page we've tested a lot that leads to a video- This page started out as just an optin form and a headline, and we kept testing new elements until it turned into the high converter it is today:

Go ahead and opt in if you want to see the video, but notice how far we were able to take it from it's simple beginnings - your squeeze pages can morph and change into sexy beasts like that too, it just takes a little patience and a lot of testing!
Split testing your squeeze pages can be a real adventure, but if you're not making drastic changes to your squeeze pages with each test, then you'll probably end up frustrated. Make sure you're always using a control to test against, and make your new experimental squeeze pages with a new or obviously different element. For instance, start by testing a completely different headline, or a completely different page color - not a single word or shade of grey.
Every time one of your squeeze pages beats the control page, you'll make it your new control, and try to beat it with a new, radical change.
Sooner or later, your squeeze pages will all be pumping out killer conversions, and you'll be bragging to your peers about how sexy your squeeze pages have become.
