Shed Blueprints: An Unlikely Ally In The Battle For More Room
I won't be able to discuss shed blueprints without first explaining how we found them
. This article is actually about how to add more room. Although there is a lot of space in our home, it isn't laid out very well. For example, we have two living rooms. I know that was popular back then, but that space would have been better allocated to rooms.
At first we were thinking of converting the living room basically into another room. There's problems with this approach though. For starters, a decent entertainment space would just disappear, which would be unfortunate, but also, we'd be substituting that with something that was far less attractive. So it was an option, but not a very good one.
Building onto the house was one of the other options we were looking at that had the downside of being a bit expensive. It'd require an extension to the roof, which isn't a big deal, but that part of the house would have sightly newer shingles than the rest of the house which would be just weird. We also realized that while we were adding space to the home, we were also adding space to the home. Meaning, we'd have to heat and cool it, as well as clean and maintain it. On a positive note, it would give us options with regards to new features we might want like a more spacious bathroom, or closet area. We realized though that it might be too much of a disruption. To make it all work, we'd need to remove walls that were in our master bedroom, and other critical areas of the home, which would compromise our privacy for periods of time, not to mention comfort. We decided that we'd do that last resort.
At that point we weren't terribly thrilled with our options, and that was about when we visited with some friends of ours. Actually we didn't really discuss this particular topic, but they were talking about a project they were working on. From what I remember it was a case of needing more space for more stuff like gardening equipment etc. Now I couldn't help it. I started daydreaming, not because it was boring, but because all this was starting to give me some ideas. That's when I realized what we needed to do. What we needed was a cottage! We could effectively add room to our home, without actually adding on to our home. Question after question, the more answers I got back from them the more it made me realize this was the best option. The most caveat though, according to the husband is that shed blueprints are a must, and he showed me where to find them (some for free). Now even though I was looking for cottage plans, this place apparently had those too.
