If you want dark, deep red wine that's divinely tasteful, full bodied, and leaves a bit of a spicy note, then you're all for the Shiraz red; a wine vinified from the 5th largest grape variety in the world. The Shiraz red is especially loved by Australia, California and its roots: the Rhone Valley of France. The most famous of which is known to come from Australia's Barossa region and is now widely sold around the world. It is very popular in the United Kingdom. The Shiraz red is appreciated by wine lovers because it's another one that's easy to drink and it can be paired with many kinds of food. It has strong blackcurrant and berry flavors, and spicy notes such as black pepper. Fair alcohol content and texture tannins enhance the wine's flavors very well. Delightful toffee notes may also come out when the Shiraz is fermented in oak. The wine's distinction is due to its lusciousness. It comes from a thick-skinned grape that takes a while to ripen thus it comes out sweeter than the rest. The Shiraz also tastes wonderfully when aged. It is best served when slightly chilled, and is better stored in cool areas with low humidity. When it comes to food pairing, the Shiraz red compliments well with sumptuous meat: steak, wild game, beef, stews, etc. Although this wine is quite sweet, its flavors do not actually dominate the entree and vice-versa. Supermarkets these days also sell sparkling Shiraz reds. Although famous in the Barossa Region, the Shiraz may also be found in other parts of Australia, namely: New South Wales, the Coulburn Valley, the Coonawara Region, and Mudgee.
