Shopping For Richmond, Virginia Internet Service Providers For Business
When looking for an internet service provider or ISP
, you need to remember they are not all the same. Before choosing or switching ISP, it is really important to consider which ISP is able to meet your companies needs and who also have a good track record (good reputation). In order to make a decision that is educated you need to do some research about what your needs are and who can meet those needs.
Monthly Charge
How much time will you and your employees be on the internet? ISPs normally charge users, either for the time spent on the internet or a flat monthly rate. If you are using the internet for business and know that you or your employees will be doing a lot of work on the internet then the monthly flat rate would make sense, but if you are just checking email and nothing else then being charged by the amount of time would make better business sense.
Technology Up-to-date
What company in your area seems to be up with all the latest technology, such as fiber optic cables, T1 or T3 lines or other options much as Metro Ethernet for really large corporations?
Web Space
Do you need space on the web to create your own website or websites? Many ISPs offer their customers some amount of web space either as an add-on to the normal service fee or as part of their normal monthly fee. If hosting your own site is going to ever become a necessity then you need to research the different prices as well as the amount of megabytes that the ISP will give you as well as the price of the service.
Tech Support
Will you need technical support? Some ISPs have varied levels of customer support. Some only offer online tech support for certain hours during the day while others have 24 hours a day 7 days a week support with a dedicated phone line for answering customer service questions. When considering this question "" look to see if they charge a fee for every phone call into tech support or is the tech support already included in their monthly fee? Do they send someone out to your location if the problem is not at their location and do they charge extra for that? It actually might be cheaper for you to hire a tech person who is freelancing to handle any onsite problems.
Service Agreement
Do you understand all of the terms in your ISP agreement? Are the terms straight forward or confusing? If there is something you do not understand then you need to have it explained to you.
Value Added Services
Does the ISP offer any extra services such as virus protection or spam blocking and is it free or do you have to pay extra for these? Some ISPs also put a cap on the size of the emails that you send. For example if you sent an email considering business with a lot of attachments will it bounce?
Location
Do you have to be in one of the large cities in Virginia to get good internet service? For example, in Richmond there is great internet service but what if your business is located in Hopewell, Colonial Heights, or Petersburg:? Does the ISP"s new technology extend throughout the entire state?
You can always ask your business colleagues who they are with. Don"t forget you can also call someone at
Richmond Ethernet Service.
