When shopping for electronics, there are many different things to keep in mind about your purchase

. Here are three tips to getting the best deals and value when searching for any electronic device:

1) First, shop around. Compare prices between major and minor retailers, as well as online options. One great way to save money is to check out models at local stores and purchase them online, as you can often get a bargain if you look hard enough.

2) Consider the necessity of a replacement plan or extended warranty. Most electronics come with a manufacturer's warranty of a few months to a year or more. Most of these will be limited warranties, which mean they only cover problems resulting from shoddy manufacturing and not from any damage the device may incur from use. Many stores offer warranties and replacement plans that cover damage and other problems for a longer period of time. Do you have a history with breaking electronics? Is this a valuable and irreplaceable unit? If so, you might want to get the plan. Otherwise, consider forming your own "insurance" account for your electronics: take the money you would have paid for a plan and put it into an account. If one of your electronics breaks, you will have a nice nest egg to repurchase it with!

3) Be careful with accessories, as you may end up paying more for your electronics than you imagined when you factor in accessory costs. Examples include cables for TVs, controllers and games for video game systems, and cases and headphones for mp3 players. Store reps will try to push any and all accessories on you, so come prepared, ready to resist these efforts and purchase only what you need.
