Short Courses At The Institute For Capacity Development In Africa

In todays multi-faceted and dynamic world, policy makers should be provided continuous

training in order to enhance their management skills and have practical experience in implementing policies. At the Institute for Capacity Development, there are several short courses such as the economic policy and econometrics training that are conducted in Windhoek, Namibia, Pretoria in South Africa and at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Objectives of the Institution

The ICD is an international and regional centre for professional training in financial and management fields. Its goal is to provide a platform for enhancing the skills and developing the abilities of the African people in order to bring about national development. All those taking up the various short courses are provided superior training in financial and accounting management or other such courses that are result oriented.

ICD focuses on courses that are for a short period say for a week to 10 days. For example the management advancement training course will take place from 16th 20th July 2012. These courses will constantly enhance the skills and capacity of policy makers working for the government or other developmental institutions.

Econometrics Training and Financial and Accounting Management

Economic plans are made using statistical data. Therefore, statistics is helpful in formulating economic policies. Econometrics makes use of mathematics and statistical data to apply to economic theory.

ICD provides courses such as the economic policy and econometrics training targeting senior government managers, economic policy planners and statisticians. When a trainee completes the course he/she will be competent to deal with policy planning, know the relationship between econometrics and economic planning and comprehend the stochastic process in the execution of economic policy.

Financial and accounting management is another important course conducted at ICD. People working as senior managers, accountants, financial managers and also administrative officers are encouraged to undergo this short course. It will help them learn to create financial reports, utilize accounting plans as administration tools for organising, planning and coordinating activities.

Management Advancement and Logistics Training

The ICD conducts various management courses such as the management advancement training which is specially meant for directors, managers of various levels, financial controllers and HR managers. The course covers general management, institutional planning, strategic management, leadership development, problem solving and decision making. When participants complete the course, they will be competent enough to manage the resources according to the goals of the establishment. They can develop their leadership qualities for the benefit of the organization and use contemporary management talents effectively.

ICD also has the supply chain management and logistics training course that has proven to be helpful to the participants. The systematic management and strategic coordination of inter-related businesses with the intention of providing value for consumers and also stakeholders is supply chain management. This course targets purchase, plant and sales managers and supply chain advisors.
