As the title of the article suggest,it's really a matter to be considered.That is the question which rise in the mind of every aspiring filmmaker.Why cant be SHORT FILM-MAKING accepted as a full time profession? The only reason is, in India there are no economic returns in short film making. In India short films are only made for festivals.
The main reason behind this is there is no sufficient financial backing for short film making and due to which the short film makers have to face many compromises in executing their ideas. Short films are certainly made in a very low budget with minimum shooting and post-production facilities.
There is a lot of struggle in this media field. If one does not have proper PR its very difficult to get any opportunity. So many talented youngsters prefer the option of making short films which help them to develop their showreel and on that basis hardly 5 to 6 lucky gems get the opportunity. Rest just wait for that single opportunity to come into their life. In such situations why not short film making can be accepted or initiated as a full time career.
In Hollywood short film making has been accepted as a profession. There are lots of opportunities provided for short film makers. So if Short film making gets a platform, more & more of aspiring talented short film makers can become great film makers in future. In India we always think that there are lack of job opportunities, so by promoting short film making as a fulltime profession ample number of job opportunities can be created in all stages of filmmaking that is pre-production, production & post production.The only need is of some leading production companies to take initiative in promoting and providing a platform for filmmakers.
