. Without this service you could be stuck between a rock and a hard place or sitting on the side of the road with all your belongings not exactly what you want during your relocation!

Short Term Storage Options

For local or long distance moves where you require overnight or very short term storage (a few days) please talk with your moving consultant, they can explain the options available to you. If they arent able to offer secure storage consider hiring a different moving company. You need to know that your household belongings will be stored safely and securely, they probably represent a good portion of your net worth, not to mention the sentimental value of things like photos, memorty boxes and items inherited from your ancestors.

Sometimes the moving company will place your shipment inside one of their secure warehouses for any short term storage of more than a few days. If this is your best option you might find that your items are left in their original container, which is then placed inside the climate controlled warehouse. Its also possible that your belongings will be offloaded into the warehouse and stored in big containers (though your possessions shouldnt be mixed up with other peoples shipments!) Certain big items (couches, for instance) might be placed on special racks for storage. All your items should remain wrapped and padded as it was inside the moving truck. Your moving consultant will be able to let you know exactly how your items will be organized during short term storage.

It might be simpler, especially for a shorage term of only a day or two, to leave your belongings in the moving truck. If this is the best option, a reliable moving company will most likely park the trailer with your possessions inside on of their secured and monitored yards.

Moving company warehouse facilities are government approved and inspected regularly. Stringent requirements must be met or the storage facility could be shut down, so reliable movers are very careful with the maintenance of their warehouse operations.

In most cases, while your shipment is in short term storage (up to 60 days), whether its inside a trailer or in one of the moving companys warehouses, your moving contract remains in effect. This means that your belongings are protected in case of damage or loss. Consult with your moving company representative to make sure you understand exactly what type of coverage you have and to what value it covers.

Its not always possible to take possession of your new home on exactly the day that you prefer so make sure you are prepared for this common scenario.

Dont forget, while you are organizing temporary accommodation for your family and your pets, to ensure that your household goods are taken care of too! Ask your consultant to explain all the available options for short term moving storage of your personal belongings during the course of your local or long distance move.
