Being cheated on is something which can not be taken lightly. Though it does not have the same gravity as one who has lost a love because of his or her love one passing away, it does deal a great amount of pain to the person being cheated. And at times, even worse, since it destroys the person's self-esteem and character in general and mostly leave the person with nothing but hatred and resentment and many more negative feelings. But at the same time, there are also occasions wherein people come to their senses and realize their mistakes and starts making an effort to win back the cheated person's heart again. But this is not an easy thing to do, especially if the damage done to the victim is really grave. Though there are people out there willing to accept their cheating partner back into their lives, there is also a risk of them getting cheated on again. In the end, there are really no guarantees and the forgiving partner may have to bear with the fear of being cheated on again at a later time, and eventually commit infidelity himself or herself in the long run. Or behave irrationally during extreme situations, which may potentially destroy the relationship beyond repair. So the question remains; should you forgive your cheating spouse?

The answer to this actually differs per person, based on their outlook on life and or previous experiences. One should expect to get bitter advice from broken-hearted individuals like not forgiving the person while you could get more positive advice from those who have a healthier outlook on life. Though asking advices from optimistic people at times is not always a reliable solution. Since some of them are too optimistic, they tend to overlook how you are feeling and what you are going through and may not be able to relate to it or properly empathize with you. At the same time, asking advices from an experienced individual, who has committed it himself or herself or who has been cheated on before may be helpful in a way since they know how you are feeling and how you could handle the situation. The drawback though is that there are some who may be too bitter already that they also overlook the possibilities of favorable outcomes and may end up giving you advices which may be influenced by resentment and or vengeance, inadvertently transferring their hatred to you.

In addition to this, the idea of forgiving someone is not always a favorable option because there are some people out there who knows the amount of influence over their cheated partners and may take advantage of him or her in accepting him or her back to his or her life since they are fully aware and confident that they will be accepted back to the other person's life. And this entails the risk of the cheated person being cheated again and end up getting taken for granted and exploited at the worse. On the other hand, the cheater may really be regretful of what he or she did and is really serious in working it out again once more. It could be that it was just a lapse in his or her judgment and may have just fallen prey to temptation.

To sum it all up, forgiving a cheating partner does not guarantee any positive outcome and the only way for you to know if it is really worth it is by actually forgiving the person and taking the risk. Now, it is just a matter of time for you to know if he or she is really being truthful this time or you just went to bite the bait of empty promises. And the only person who will be held responsible for this is you and no one else.
