Should Senior Citizens Make The Cell Phone Switch?
With Cell Phones falling in price and size, more and more people are owning these devices
. Seniors citizens are a group that should be jumping onto this bandwagon for various factors which we will list.
There are so many different uses for a cell phone today. Just about everyone needs one for:
*Doing business
*Staying in the loop with family and their friends
*Safety and security
With decrease in expenses and the enhancement in features and the stable call reception cell phones now offer, most seniors could consider using a cell phone as a substitution for their home hard line.
Cell Phone Portability
Even if a senior is more home bound, it still makes sense for them to get a cell phone. A land line is often tied to a particular location within the home and if there is a fall, the phone can not be reached. There is also the mere convenience that if a senior wants to make a call they can just reach into their pocket and make the call. For some seniors getting up an crossing to another room is a painful and energy draining experience.
Economical Choice
Many seniors do not switch over to a cell phone as they assume that a cell phone being the newer technology is more expensive to operate. Cell phones have been around for quite a while and with mass adoption, prices have come down.
When it comes down to it there is really only a couple or small number of numbers that the senior calls to where they'd talk to someone for any extended period of time. When it comes to this there are many cell phone providers out there that have plan offerings to fit this need. Providers offer discounts and/or special offers on calling costs if both of the numbers are on the same network. There are others that will allow free calls to your most frequently called numbers. There are also providers out there with plans and prepaid plans that will offer you unlimited incoming and outgoing for a reasonable price per month.
When it comes down to the price that you'd pay for unlimited long distance on the land line or if you don't have a long distance plan at all the cell phone can really pay for itself month after month along with the added security that you have the phone with you at all times. Potentially depending on how much you talk you could almost end up talking for free in comparison.
A New Toy for the Old Boy
Although there will be exceptions most seniors aren't too keen to be spending their golden years time learning new technology. However, many cell phones are specifically for seniors and feature larger buttons and have an large emergency alert button on the back of the phone for easy access.
If they don't like technology don't let this dissuade you as there are cell phone options out there that are just as easy, if not easier, than a lot of the landline handsets that are out there.
