Should You Have Intercourse During The Whole Month You're Trying To Conceive?
Somtimes, I get emails asking if it is necessary to have sex during the entire month before you want to get pregnant
. Believe it or not, some people use what I call the "throwing a million darts at the target" method of getting pregnant which means that they will try to have intercourse or sex as often as possible during the entire month before they are trying to conceive. They are hoping that one of these attempts will stick and will result in a healthy pregnancy. Honestly, this method is over-kill and it may well be doing you more harm than good. I'll explain this more in the following article.The Entire Month Is Not Your Fertility Window: There is really only a five seven day window when you can get pregnant. This "window" begins about 3 4 days before ovulation and ends 1 2 days after it. This is the only period of time in which you can get pregnant. And, sperm can only live for around one (for Y or boy sperm) to four days (for X or girl sperm) days. So, this limits you even more.
So, in actuality, if you're having sex before or after this period, in terms of getting pregnant, you're wasting your time. This doesn't mean you can't bond with your partner and have fun. But, in terms of getting pregnant, you should focus on the fertility window and just stop there. Actually, there is a big difference between recreational intercourse and conception intercourse. Don't confuse one for the other.
Also, if you go out all with intercourse through out the entire month, you could well deplete your partner's sperm count so that when you actually are in your window, you'll have less sperm chromosomes (both X and Y) with which to work. The best case scenario is actually to back off a few days before you begin that three days prior to ovulation time frame. How do you know when you are nearing this period? You use a high quality, extremely reliable ovulation predictor that is easy to read and use.
Taking It A Step Further: Believe it or not, we can get even more specific with this, especially if you have a preference as to which gender you want. If you want a girl baby, you should begin having sex 3 -4 days before your egg is ready to be fertilized and then stop there. (And as I mentioned before, in the best case scenario, you will abstain a couple of days before this.) Keeping going will only make you more likely to conceive a boy.
But, if you want a boy or male child, you'll want to wait until you actually ovulate and have an unmistakable positive on your predictor. Again, it's best to hold off on being intimate in the days leading up to this. You can keep trying fora few days after this, but the late attempts aren't likely to make much difference as these Y's only live for a short period of time.
You can take this even further if you wish by evaluating and changing your PH and acidity and using specific intercourse positions depending on the gender that you're trying to conceive.
