Bed and breakfasts, however, are more designed towards travellers who are enjoying a holiday. They will be in more scenic locations and likely close to tourist attractions. They will have a more relaxed atmosphere conducive to a pleasurable getaway.

How much privacy and independence do you desire?

Hotels are usually more private than a bed and breakfast, because when you stay in a B&B you are staying in someones home and eating breakfast with them every morning. It is a smaller setting and so your hosts will know you more intimately than if you are one of the many hundreds of guests in a large hotel. If you desire friendly and personable service, a bed and breakfast is the type of accommodation for you. However, if you want to live completely on your own schedule and enjoy your privacy a large hotel will be more suitable.

Do you prefer the country or the city?

Although there are some exceptions, most bed and breakfasts are located in rural or residential areas and large hotels are found in city centres. There are advantages to both. When staying in the heart of the city you will be within walking distance from many major tourist attractions, as well as have easy access to restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and more. You will be able to visit your destination without a car by relying on urban public transport and you will have the experience of being right in the middle of the action of the city.

If you are staying in a B&B accommodation outside of the city centre, the advantages are that you will be able to enjoy much more peaceful surroundings. Many bed and breakfasts are set within gorgeous natural settings and are very tranquil and relaxing places to stay. You will be closer to other types of activities such as hiking, swimming and fishing and your hosts will orient you to the many fun attractions of the area.
