Should You Take A Stopover On Your Flights To Turkey?

Many budget airlines offer routes from the UK and major cities in Europe to the most popular holiday resorts in Turkey

. When you see the flights to Turkey online you notice that there are two types of routes, a direct route and a route with one or more stops.

If you choose a direct route to Turkey, you will only have to board one plane which will take you all of the way to your holiday destination in the least time possible. Direct flights to Turkey are great, because they are much more convenient. However, unless you find a really lucky deal, a direct journey from your home airport straight to Turkey will be more expensive than the other options. It is up to you to determine whether this extra cost is worth it.

The other option is to take a flight that has one or more stopovers in airports along the way. The flight might stop in one of the major airport hubs in Europe and you will have to wait for an hour or two until you finish your trip. You might need to get off the first plane and onto a second one, but in most cases you will not need to collect your luggage and check it again as it is automatically transferred for you. These flights can take a few hours longer than direct flights, but they are usually cheaper.

Is a Direct Flight Worth the Cost?

When you are booking flights to Turkey, you might be torn choosing between these two types of flights. You want to get to Turkey as quickly as possible so that you can enjoy as much of your holiday time as you can, but you also want to save money on your flights to Turkey because you are on a small travel budget. Is it worth it?

One way think of it is to total up how much you save on a non-direct flight, and how much time it adds to your journey. For example, say you booked one of the flights to Turkey which was 100 cheaper than the direct flight, but it stopped at another airport for 2 hours.

Divide the extra time by the money that you save, and you end up saving 50 for each extra hour you spend waiting in the airport. Because money saved is money earned, you are essentially earning that money by spending those extra two hours in transit. Think about it, if someone offered you a job making 50 per hour, would you not be pretty excited to take it?

When you do this equation, it will let you know whether or not the extra time spent by taking a stopover on your flights to Turkey will be worth the money that you save.
