Should You Trust A Dvd Rental Company With Bad Reviews?

First, a confession: this is not exactly an idle question

.

A few weeks ago the Empire movie club was created in the UK in conjunction with OutNow DVD rental.

OutNow DVD rental, you may recall, will be hoping that it can leave behind a shaky past plagued with poor customer reviews.

So should you trust a DVD rental company with bad reviews?

The problems for OutNow DVD started around its inception offering a glossy website and innovative ideas, such as labelling popular DVDs to encourage users to send them back quickly once they were done, and the website grew in popularity, attracting thousands of users.

However, reviews of the site soon started suggesting that the service has some customer service problems with many user complaints suggesting that the staff where rude and often perceived to be passing the buck.

On top of that some users suggested that the company had continued to take money out of their bank accounts after they had cancelled the account.

These are obviously very serious complaints but most of them are now a few years old and the company has changed a lot in that time.

The temptation for people looking for a rental service to go to a larger company such as lovefilm must be great but consumers are entitled to shop around so the question remains.

Having given this some thought I've come up with three criteria which can help a new dvd rental customer to decide whether the company

Number one, Google it. People post on forums, blogs and new social media sites like Twitter when they have bad service from a company and the review will be accompanied by a date.

Now, if you're looking for it you can find a review of just about any company on the planet so ignore the ones that are germane to just about every dvd rental by post service ever (i.e. "shock! my dvd took longer than two hours to arrive!") and look out for the serious ones: bill shocks and rude customer service, those are what really counts.

Number two, find a full review.

You'll be able to see one of these on any dvd rental comparison site worth its salt - they'll have collated the bad reviews and assessed them too but they'll also have inside information on the service.

Number three, take it for a test ride.

Almost all dvd rental services come with a dvd rental free trials so take advantage of them.

As for OutNow and the Empire movie club I can't tell you whether to trust them but I'll certainly be putting my own two step method to the test before I sign up.
