Signs You Need Water Heater Repair

Water heater repair may be an option for many homeowners experiencing malfunctions or difficulties associated with their system

. You should not go without this system even for a short period of time. However, most people do not realize that these systems actually provide warning signs that something is not working properly. If you take the time to get help right away, as soon as you spot concerns related to the function of the system, you could reduce the risk of having to replace it.

Consider the Temperature

One of the most common water heater repair signs is temperature changes. If you are noticing that the hot temperature is not as high as it used to be, this could indicate the tank is having trouble heating to the right level. Most temperature ranges are above 120 degrees. If you notice your thermostat is not working properly or it is set to the proper temperature, but the showers are still cold, this could signal a problem that needs attention right away. Sometimes, it is just the thermostat. In other cases, the heating element may be broken.

It Sounds Strange

Another common warning sign is a strangely sounding tank. They do make noise! You may hear it whine, bang, squeal or even creak. You may not even notice that this is what is making the noise until you take the time to pinpoint it. These sounds are often due to sediment that sits on the bottom of the tank and builds up over time. If the debris comes into contact with the heating element, you generally will begin to hear various sounds related to the tank's burning of the sediment. To fix this problem, flush the tank as directed by the manufacturer. In other cases, you may need to replace the heating element.

Knowing It Is Time to Replace It

Other situations have more complex repair needs. Some situations it is simply best to replace the system rather than try to fix it. If your usage is high and the system is unable to keep up, it may be time to replace it. It is unlikely any type of fix will work here. Also, most systems last between 15 and 20 years. If it is older than this, you may wish to replace the heaters as a way to increase efficiency. If the tank is leaking, that is also a good sign it is time to replace it with a new one. Water heater repairs do not have to be difficult. Have a

professional come to your home and inspect the current system. Then, determine if you need to replace or just fix the system. Sometimes, the process only takes a matter of minutes
