Sikkim is known as a fortified place found in the Himalayas. The state of Sikkim borders Nepal to the west, China to the north and Bhutan to the southeast, while the south borders India. Just like the other places in the Himalayas, Sikkim is geographically diverse.

The name Sikkim was derived from "Su" and "Him" which means beautiful home. Because of its beautiful nature and snow covered mountains, Sikkim attracts so many visitors and tourists each year. You can find lush green valleys and a magnificent panorama of Tibet. About forty percent of Sikkim is covered with forest so you can find a vast green terrain in the area. Even though Sikkim only has an area of 7096 square kilometers, the state has eight towns namely: Dzongu (northern Sikkim), Gangtok (Capital), Geyzing ( west), Mangan (north), Namchi (South), Pelling (west), Ravangla (south), and Yuksom (west). Getting to Sikkim Before visiting Sikkim, you first need to know some facts in getting to the state. Below are some tips for first-time Sikkim travelers. There is no direct route for plane rides going to Sikkim. However, you may get there via jeep or bus ride on the route from West Bengal. Visitors from foreign countries are required to get a Restricted Area Permit before entering Sikkim. You can get one from immigration offices and airports at New Delhi and Kolkata.

Bogdora is the nearest airport going to Sikkim. You can take a helicopter ride from Bagdora going to Gangtok. After reaching the place, you can take a taxi which will take you to Sikkim.

By this time, there aren't any available train rides yet, though it is said a train service will be ready by 2015.

If you want to reach Sikkim via bus, you can take Sikkim's fixed rate bus rides from Siliguri and Gangtok.

Apart from riding with jeep and bus, others go to Sikkim by trekking which is more exciting if you are into physical training. Once you reach Sikkim, you can find amazing places and ancient infrastructures, together with the natural beauty of the state. What to See in Sikkim

Sikkim is where we can find Rumtek Monastery which was built in 1740, and renovated in 1959. The Tsongmo Lake can be found about 40 kilometers from Gangtok.

Trekkers are encouraged to visit Dzongri trek which is a perfect trekking site.

Tourists, trekkers, rafters, mountain climbers and bikers are all welcome to visit Sikkim, a place where you can enjoy such adventures.
