Similarities And Differences Between Pdas And Smartphones
A Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is a device that helps users to be able to organize their activities and contacts as well as other tasks
. This device looks like a small computer that has a screen with contacts, calendar, tasks as well as an address book. PDAs are designed to be able to install additional programs as well. A smartphone, on the other hand, is a phone that has advanced capabilities compared to a regular mobile phone and is mostly referred to as a PDA that has cellular capabilities. PDAs and Smartphones have several similarities as well as differences.
Both these devices contain similar technology, although the smartphone has more features. The design of these two devices is one of the similar properties that they share. Most smartphones and PDAs have the same shape and looks, and it is normally not easy to distinguish between them, especially if you are not an expert in mobile devices. One of the main differences of these devices is the cellular capability. A smartphone includes an additional hardware that enables it to communicate with a cellular network and at the same time processes data, which enables it to access the Internet without the need of having a wireless hotspot.
Smartphones are, however, available using only one cellular provider and this means that a user will have to unlock it in case you need to use a different service provider. These two devices also use similar operating systems, and this includes the Windows Mobile Operating System from Microsoft and Android Operating System from Google, among other operating systems. The processor speed is also similar in several models of both devices. The processor speed determines how fast a user will be able to complete a specific task.
Both the smartphone and the PDA also have similar storage options. This is because both of them have the similar internal storage capacity as well as options to expand this memory through a micro SD slot that accepts different capacities of memory cards. Both of these devices also come equipped with additional features such as Wi-Fi support as well as a camera, although the resolutions differ in each model. The price of a smartphone is also not very different from that of a PDA as there is little difference. It is however, good to note that different smartphones have similar features, and it is not hard to see HTC phones with features that are also possessed by BlackBerry phones.
