Simple Grow Box

, a simple yet effective means to grow at home. You will need a basic wooden box, four feet by four feet with a bottom and a top at about two and a half feet tall, depending on how tall you are looking to grow your plants. I myself prefer plants that grow "out" not "up" but everyone is different so adjust the height to meet your own needs. Make sure to line the entire box with plastic sheeting of your choice. Also line the panels and top of the box as well.

Insert cross shaped panel into your box to give you four separate compartments, each of these compartments will serve a different purpose. The first compartment will house your "mother plant" while the next compartment will house baby clones, the compartment after that will house growing clones and the final compartment will house budding plants. It is a good idea to keep a misting bottle nearby in order to keep your plants good and wet. This grow box is a very simple design and is not intended to be the type that can be stealthily hidden away in the average home. If you have a large enough home to hide such a box than that is of course up to you, but there are better designs for such a function.

When it comes to lighting and this grow box there are two options, you can attach lighting to the top of the box with timers so that you can close the grow box up and only open it for watering. The other option is to use lighting outside of the box above it, this particular method makes it easier to keep the grow box "contained" since when you put the top on no insects or outside contaminants can get inside.

The best type of lighting to use in this situation in my opinion is fluorescent lights which will bathe the entire grow box in light and ensure that all plants are receiving the optimum balance needed to grow. While this setup does not meet the needs of a master grower it will certainly meet the needs of anyone on a budget. Some of the risks here are of course being unable to constantly monitor pH levels as you could with a hydroponic setup and it is also very much an obvious grow setup.

Using a grow box is a way to curb your costs and avoid much of the trouble you will encounter with growing outdoors or in a hydroponic system. However this setup is most definitely vulnerable to insects and other contaminants so you really need to consider what you are looking to accomplish before you begin construction of your grow box . This particular setup should produce about 5 ounces per 60 day period if you are careful to observe the proper light cycle and give your plants water regularly. Light cycle however is especially important, do not leave them out to bake!
