Simple Materials in Order to Build Wood Bird Feeders
If you have spare time, then why not build wood bird feeders? This would be a good experience on your part because if they see the food in your yard, they would stop by there and eat.
Backyard bird feeders are easy to do. It does not need to have expensive materials or you do not need to use special tools. All you need to have is a hammer, saw and screwdriver as well as pieces of plywood, screws and nails.
To make your wood bird feeders, it is important to make a plan first before cutting up the woods. Have a sketch as to how you want your feeder to look like. After this, measure what you need to measure to find out if the materials that you have on hand are enough. After finishing what you have already done, it's time to put it into action. Cut the plywood based on the allotted sizes for the bird feeders. Next is to see if the pieces fit together then start polishing the sides using sandpaper to smoothen the edges, just like what is shown in Figure 1. You also have to ensure that the base of the feeder is deep enough to hold bird seeds. One thing that you should also keep in mind is to make the roof in a slanting position to keep trickling water from dripping off the roof. If you intend to feed big birds such as starlings and doves, make sure that the distance between the platform and the roof is high enough. To place your feeders at your preferred location, use a metal bird feeder pole. If you think that all pieces snugly fit in, then go ahead and screw the wood into its proper places. If your plywood is too thin, then don't screw it tightly because it may break. Finally, you have completed building your wood bird feeders. Applying wood oil or painting it would make it look attractive and also give ample protection. By placing your feeder in your garden, use the bird feeder pole.
To introduce birds to your new feeder, create a food path leading to it. What you have to do is to scatter bird seeds all over that would lead to the feeder. Birds will now know where your feeder is located.
Building wood bird feeders is one of the many feeders that you can easily build. You may also use large, empty plastic bottles or wire mesh as your alternatives. You may add more feeders in your garden to attract more birds which definitely you'll be able to enjoy.
