Now, many people have confused pharmacy techs with actual pharmacists. Do not confuse them. A pharmacist goes to school and is in school for a rather long time. This isn't the case with a pharmacy tech. Some of them do have vocational schooling. Others might not. That is the reason the pharmacy tech is there to assist the pharmacist. Your main thing is to help keep drive thru as well as the front desk flowing by answering phones, counting pills, giving out prescriptions once they have been filled and making sure that insurance is correct. You are not limited to only these things, but this is an example.
Being a pharmacy tech means that you have to like people. If you don't like people then this isn't the job for you. You will be encountering people all day. You'll be the one they see when they have waited a long time for their prescription to fill. You might have to know how to handle some people who are irritated and what not. A rude pharmacy tech can really give a place a bad reputation.
There are many different places that have a use for pharmacy technicians. Hospitals are one great source that are always looking for these and with this job, you have to be able to read patient charts. There are other places as well. You can find a complete list by doing a regular search. Yet, there is still more to understand about this job.
So, what sort of training is needed to do this? Now, you don't have to go to college or anything. Though it might be helpful for some. You will get on the job training to understand what is expected of you and so forth. Something you will have to do however is that you will have to get certified. You can go to a technical school where you will learn other things, but the certification will teach you measurements and so forth as you study for it.
People choose this career path for a number of reasons. Many times though, the basic reason is due to the fact that when you work as a pharmacy tech, you are guaranteed a job as well as good benefits. Other times, it's because some want to go in the medical field and this can help you to learn of the drugs and what they do. You can learn a lot from the pharmacists.
So, now you have general knowledge about this job. It's a good one to have if you so desire to pursue this avenue. Many have been one for years. Some have decided that it's something that they would really like to go into to help them learn the ropes so that they can become pharmacists. Whatever your reason for doing it, you won't regret it.
