Simple Tips for First Time Dads

So you've gone through the whole rollercoaster ride that's called pregnancy. You've been through the whole hormonal imbalance and the episodes of mood swings. I bet you felt the same sigh of relief and that indescribable feelings of hearing your baby cry out in the delivery room. I'm telling you, the past stress and pressures of 9 months will melt away like it never existed. All the roads leading from being a first time dad to be end with holding your baby in your arms for the first time.

However, there's a whole new group of experiences coming your way as you are now a first time dad, taking care of your newborn baby. I realized right away that just because my wife has unloaded the extra person from her body and mind, I'm just supposed to revert back to being the man of the house. Not likely.

Parenting is a hands-on job that requires both partners to be present. We are responsible for bringing life into this planet so we have to make sure that we take care of that life. Especially since he's the most precious baby boy I have ever seen. I'm in love with my wife and most definitely, I'm in love with my child so this means I don't mind getting up during the wee hours of the morning just to go and soothe him and lull him back to sleep.

I have a few techniques that I would like to share for first time dads when it comes to calming your baby back to sleep. The first thing that my wife and I do before putting our baby to bed is to give him a warm bath. Warm water actually relaxes baby's muscles which make him sleep better at night.

After his routine of warm bath before bed, my wife or I, hold the baby while sitting on a rocking chair. This is a good way to lull the baby into a relaxed state of sleep. My wife pokes fun at me though because by the time the baby dozes off, I was already asleep myself. But I think the deep, constant noise and rumbling snore from my body actually helps the baby sleep. I read somewhere that the vibration of your voice or sound can actually lull the baby into sleepiness.

Still, you can't really escape the unholy hours when a baby wakes up crying. Usually it's because of a full diaper and the need to change a dirty nappy. Sometimes the baby is hungry too. I also check the room temperature to make sure he's not being too cold or too warm. Babies are sensitive to room temperature and they should be neither too cool nor too warm.

I also got a cool set of CD's that are calming and soothing. The sound helps the baby relax and go back to sleep. It also tunes outside noises away from your baby's room and evens out a certain noise level that induces drowsiness. So if you are a first time dad, you can try these tips and let me know how it works.
