Simple Tricks To Make The Hard Work Of Ironing Easier
Many people think of ironing as a hard chore that just has to be done
, but there are many ways to make it much easier and more pleasant. These days when there are steam irons that have been ergonomically designed it is a lot easier to get the job done than it was for our great grandparents who probably had to heat their iron up on a wood burning stove. Of course, they had to have at least two irons on the fire so that one could be heating while they used the other.
These days getting the wrinkles out of our clothes are much simpler; some people even like to do this task. That is often because they set it up so that they can watch TV or listen to music at the same time. This certainly makes doing the task more pleasant, but for some people nothing will take away from the annoyance of having to iron clothes. They would much rather spend that time on the computer or soaking in a bubble bath.
One way to make the job easier is to sit down while doing it. Ironing boards are adjustable so you can lower it and sit on a comfortable chair while pressing those clothes. Just remember when you are stretching to each end that it all adds a little more to that exercise that you dont get enough of. Another simple trick to lessen the task starts well before you set up that ironing board.
This is to take care with the clothes when you get them off the line. If you shove them willy-nilly into the basket they are going to get very wrinkled, so you are actually increasing your workload. Rather, fold them as you take them off the line. And leave those shirts till last so you can drape them gracefully over the top of the pile until you get the basket back inside and then place them on hangers immediately.
The type of ironing board cover is also an important element in making the job easier. The cover needs to fit properly around the board and have sufficient padding under it, otherwise the clothes will never come out looking good. In addition, you can get the type of cover that reflects heat and this actually reduces your ironing time because the clothes get ironed on the bottom side.
And lastly, reduce your ironing work by learning the correct way to iron a shirt. Do the small parts such as collar and cuffs first, then the sleeves, facings, fronts and back in that order. And using a spray on starch also helps to give shirts body and makes them easier to iron.
