Singapore Sprint Series 2010 - Duathlon Endurance, Excitement And Exultation

As a multi sport discovered in early 1970s, triathlon was used in the past to train athletes from the track clubs

. In triathlon, three back to back races comprised of swimming, cycling and running will test the will and the strength of individual triathletes. The International Triathlon Union, founded in 1989 in France, hosted the first triathlon world championship.

Triathlon has many variations namely aquathlon, winter triathlon, off-road triathlon and duathlon to name but a few. Duathlon comprises of a running, cycling and again a running segment. This multi sport also comes under the authority of the International Triathlon Union. In the history of duathlon the biggest event was the London Duathlon held in 2005 where around 2500 athletes competed, shoulder to shoulder.

Duathlon races can vary from the toughest to the easiest where veterans as well as complete beginners can take part and equally enjoy the spirit of the sport. The toughest duathlon championship in the world is said to be the Powerman Zofingen. This event is based on a hilly racing track where the duathletes have to run ten kilometres, then bike 150 kilometres and again run another 30 kilometres to wind up. Conversely there is the Singapore Sprint Series 2010 which allows duathletes of all levels to participate and simply have fun and stay fit.

The Singapore Sprint Series allows the participants to choose a single duathlon race or a series championship based on their experience, fitness and skill levels. This event has won the admiration and attention of athletes worldwide as much as regular tourists, hence after two successful years they are hosting the series again in 2010.

Singapore Sprint Series hosts three major races altogether, starting from Aquathlon, Duathlon and finishing with a Triathlon. The Duathlon race was held on 14th March 2010. The venue was the atrium of the first dedicated sports mall in Singapore called the Velocity @ Novena Square.

Singapore Sprint Series 2010 is divided into four types of races namely Kids, Youth, Mini and Sprint. While all duathlon races follow the same sequence of running, biking and running the distances of each category differ greatly.

For the Kids race the event goes as a 500 metre run, five kilometre bike and 500 metre run. Both Youth and Mini have segments of the same distance where they do a one and half kilometre running, ten kilometre biking and one and half kilometre running. Finally the toughest duathlon event of the Singapore Sprint Series 2010 is the Sprint race. For this race the duathletes should run three kilometres, bike 15 kilometres and again run three kilometres.

The next race of the Singapore Sprint Series 2010 is the triathlon which will be held on second May 2010. If you wish to join this race then come to the Velocity @ Novena Square atrium on the first of May before 11 am to pick up your race kit.
