Also, do examine the links and banners provided on the web page. If clicking on dating websites leads to porn sites then you know you need to get out of there and FAST. Some links are also invitation to spam; you are well-advised to stay away from them.

Most new users forget to check privacy links given at the bottom of the websites' home page. This is a mistake since privacy links provide the necessary assurance that spam will not get into your mail. If a privacy link does not state anything of that sort then you are best off not using that site.
