Six Effective Ways To Handle Competitive Siblings

Approaches to handle competitive siblings include realizing that every family has its own troubles

, expecting the worst of your siblings, not dropping your composure, keeping your sense of humor, building an alliance, and taking a break.

Most of the time, every family, in one way or another, has sibling rivalry concerns. If your brother or sister finds a means to heat things up during family get-togethers, there are particular things you can do to keep the peace, rather than just relying on the assistance of Boot Camps for kids.

Realize that every family has its own issues

Know that every family has its own issues and interesting structure. It is said that sibling rivalry is a Darwinian method to prepare us to deal with the unfriendly character of the world. There might be some degree of media hype on the theories of the order of birth; but, it still doesn't hold any meaning to you, unless you're the first born who's the achiever, the middle or unknown kid, or the youngest of the family who's the brat and who usually gets away with all types of illegal activities. Do realize that every family has its own share of issues and misfortunes, and therefore you're not the only one with this kind of situation.

Anticipate the worst of your brothers and sisters

Do not allow yourself to be involved in any type of family drama. If you're about to attend a thanksgiving party or a family gathering wherein the whole family, as well as the extended ones, will be there, anticipate the worst things which your competitive brothers or sisters will unleash at the event. By doing this, you will not be too surprised, and you will not respond thoughtlessly to their harshness.

Never lose your composure

Manage your actions and your emotions, and do not lose your composure. You're no longer a little kid, and as an adult, you know how to control your actions, despite the strong feelings of wanting to do something else to get back at the one who is hurting you. No matter how much your alter ego wants you to pour that cup of wine on your sister's new white top, do not give in. Keep your leash tighter and just smile like her words aren't eating you up inside.

Maintain your sense of humor

Only a few people can really survive sibling competition without any noticeable symbol of deep emotional marks. Simply learn to laugh at your siblings' efforts to bring you down or get you mad or jealous over a particular item. Don't waste your efforts and your feelings this way.

Build an alliance

Develop an alliance with other members of the family or a particular individual. This doesn't mean, however, that you will be ganging up against the problem brother or sister. Instead, your purpose will be to obtain knowledge on what others feel about the issue and to get a different perspective.

Take a break

When you feel like you can't take it anymore, take your kid or your partner's hand and leave the area. Go outside the door and take a breath of fresh air. Remain in that area for as long as you like. By letting go of the strong desire to manage other people, you're actually liberating yourself from becoming disappointed.

No matter how much you fight with your siblings, keep in mind that you are still a family.
