Here is a list of some common foot problems that make day to day life less enjoyable.

The Effects of Diabetes on the Feet

The issue can be so serious that it may even require amputation, so treating this problem is imperative to the diabetic. The fact is that the disease reduces patients ability to feel pain in their feet. This requires that these patients pay close attention to the way their feet look rather than the way they feel.

Diabetics have several different types of footwear that has been invented just to make their feet more comfortable. Along with shoes that will be large enough to fit the feet comfortably, they also have socks, slippers, orthotics and insoles just for the needs of those suffering from diabetes.

Some people have trouble with swelling in their feet. This condition, called edema, can cause foot pain as people attempt to wear their regular shoes. They can relieve this condition just by lying down and placing their feet higher than their hearts. To address it throughout the day, they can purchase support socks or support stockings that will apply the appropriate amount of pressure to the affected area. People can avoid the problem of edema by changing some bad habits they may be engaging in currently. One of those is to use laxatives or diuretics more than is recommended. Another is to eat a diet high in salt and carbohydrates. The use of illicit drugs also has been known to cause swelling to occur in the feet.

An improper walk can be the cause of some peoples foot problems. This would be the reason that people develop hammer toes, overlapping toes or crooked toes. The condition can also result from wearing improperly fitting shoes. However the condition is caused, it can be treated by ensuring that ones shoes have ample room in the toe area to adequately accommodate each toe. If the hammer toes are rubbing against one another, the remedy for corns works well to relieve this foot pain. To decrease the friction caused by hammer toes, people can apply corn pads or corn cushions during the time they are wearing shoes.
