Six Unstoppable Economic Trends
The First Quarter 2011 issue of The MHEDA Journal (http://www.TheMhedaJournal.org), the leading online magazine for the forklift, conveyor, storage & handling, and general material handling equipment industries, was mailed to subscribers on January 31. This issue features an article from Barry Asmus, senior economist with the National Center for Policy Analysis. Asmus, who will be a speaker at the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association's Annual Convention in May, discusses six trends that he sees driving the economic climate in 2011 and beyond.
"As we look ahead at the American economy in 2011 and beyond, I see good things. In fact, I would argue that the best is yet to come. Large, global manufacturing firms and exporters such as Caterpillar, Intel and Boeing were already back to 2007 production levels in Fourth Quarter 2010," Asmus writes. "Major exporters have started to recover as the rest of the world recovers. We will harness our own domestic energy sources, mostly natural gas. Entering 2011, there are six unstoppable trends that are impacting our world, our economy, our industry and our businesses."
The six trends that Asmus points to are: Poverty Is the Natural Condition, Wealth Creation, Rise of the Indian Ocean, Recessions Are Natural, Recoveries Follow Recessions and Where America? He covers each trend in greater detail before closing with, "How the world responds to these trends will determine what the future holds for us all."
