Sizing Up Your Room

When you are living in a place you may have rooms that are huge but with this the room will normally feel too large

. People like the feel of a small spot that will seem more comfortable. But in doing this they don't want to make the area feel cramped either.

So, if you want the best of both worlds, how can you create the illusion that your small cozy space is actually huge? There are numerous approaches to this situation. Here are a few suggestions.

Clean out the clutter you have in your room. If it's a smaller space you won't need as many objects in it. This will immediately make you feel that the room is larger than it actually is. Don't place anything in the room which is just sitting there collecting dust like magazines, books, blankets, and figurines. Open up the walkway of the room and you will feel it opening up the space and feeling more spacious.

Use colors that are tone-on-tone. Cool colors will open up a room and coordinated colors matching the value of your walls, furniture, drapes and rugs will unify and enlarge the room. Choose the softer greens and blues.

Bringing color in a room will do wonders. There are several ways to add color. The obvious is to paint the walls. Keep in mind that using dark colors will make the room cozy but will make it seem even smaller. Light colors are reflective to any light source and will make the room expand. If you want the warmth of a darker color, use it as an anchor on one wall and paint the rest in a muted lighter tone of the dark color.

Add some rugs into the room with more color in them. If you're fixing up a small space you should have one rug that is large in the room. Trying only small rugs in the room will make the room appear more chopped up.

It's very nice when you purchase an area rug because it's something which can be moved and replaced rather than furniture or carpet. You can pay very little for area rugs which have designs or even just a basic solid color. You won't understand the difference the rug will make you feel once you place it into a smaller room.

If you have a rug that has deeper tones to it will add some warmth to the room. Or a sophisticated looking area rug can add a distinction to the room that wasn't there before. There are so many different options to make sure you get what you like set up in a room.

A large area rug brings interest and also expands your small area. Using furniture that is smaller, in a small space will help and then placing some lighting for dark corners and mirrors to give the illusion of greater depth in the room will also help. A couple simple changes, a splash of color and a big area rug and your small cozy space looks huge.
