SkateAmerica: Guidelines on Safe Skateboarding
Being an extreme sport which requires guts and courage
, people sometimes disregard their own safety. To maximize the enjoyment a skateboarder can have, safety should always be considered.
SkateAmerica, a leading online store for skateboarding gear and components, shares with us some important guidelines on how to stay safe while enjoying the sport.
Just skate within your level. Do not abruptly attempt to perform tricks on a higher level. Although having the courage to do everything is good, you still have to put limits to yourself. Perform tricks that you have already practiced over and over. For example, if you are not used to doing Ollie yet, do not attempt to skate on stairs.
Slowly move up level per level. Stretch your skills by leveling up. But as said earlier, you have to slowly or gradually take on tricks for the next level. Carefully practice tricks by doing each step one by one. Work on them over and over until you master each trick.
Do not push yourself too hard. When practicing tricks, you have to know when to stop. There are tricks which may seem too easy for others but will give you a hard time to master. Give yourself time to rest after several times of trying. You do not want to burn yourself out.
Check the condition of the place where you plan to skate. Immediately skateboarding on a spot without surveying the scene for safety is highly discouraged. It should be automatic for skateboarders to inspect the area because indentations, wet spots, rocks, holes, and such may be present and this might lead to accidents.
Keep yourself energized by fully hydrating. Optimum performance can be achieved if your body is in a good condition. Since skateboarding brings you to long hours under the sun, you may be prone to dehydration and even heat stroke. Make sure you bring adequate bottles of water when skateboarding.
Avoid practicing during the evening. No matter how many lights are turned on, there still is a big difference on your vision during the night compared to daylight. You would not be able to see properly and this is risky especially if the area has unnoticed dangers. In addition, if you would be skateboarding on a high traffic area, you might go unseen by people or vehicles which can lead to serious accidents.
Prepare yourself by wearing the proper protective gear. There is nothing more important than shielding yourself when it comes to safety. Make sure you are geared up with a helmet to protect your head, knee pads and elbow bands to protect your joints, and a good pair of skateboard shoes. Check out

These are safety guideline important to be followed when skateboarding. Comply with them and you're sure to have to best skateboarding experiencing! Enjoy!
