If you choose to sleep in Cortina, one of the most appreciated cities in the Veneto mountains, you'll be able to follow different paths on the Dolomites, from which you'll have the chance to admire the natural beauty of the landscape surrounding you.

The Dolomites are a unique mountain chain: it formed from the marine detritus hundreds of millions years ago, when the sea wetted that area; the tectonic movements made the rest, raising the accumulations of shells, algae and corals and forging those that nowadays we call Dolomites, after Dodat de Dolomieu, who studied their geological history and composition.

On the 26th June 2009 the Dolomites have been declared a natural heritage by UNESCO: this confirms their uniqueness and their importance in the world naturalistic panorama. The Dolomites chain is extended in the provinces of Bolzano, Trent, Vicenza, Verona, Pordenone, Udine and Belluno, being the major part of the chain in the territory of the latter province, in the northern Veneto.

The stranger tourists, though, will probably increase about 5%.

The Italian skiers are about three and a half million; among them there are about one million and 400 thousand experts, one million and 300 thousand amateurs and about 800 thousand, instead, go to the mountains in the high season periods to use their equipment and take a stab at alpine skiing.

The sports on the snow are many, and those who go for a skiing winter holiday look at the same time for relax and adrenaline: the holiday relax, the adrenaline of the more and more difficult ski runs.
