Sleeping In Luxury And Associated Problems

This morning I realised that I had recently made a great mistake by trying to do something nice for my children

. Last month I was out shopping with some friends and we came across a department store which was advertising a bed linen sale. Unable to resist those bold red signs, we decided to go and check it out, especially since two of the girls in the group consider it a sacred duty to never miss a sale, even if it is on something they have no use for. That is why one of them went home with a single cheap memory foam mattress which would end life in the in the attic since she only has double beds in her house, and the other one decided that she just could not live without another Siberian goose down duvet!

I, however, did actually need some new bed linen sale and bought some quilt cover sets and cushions. Then I had the inspired idea to treat my kids to some new bedding since they had just had their room redecorated and the old things were looking decidedly shabby. Foe each of them I bought a matching set of Hungarian goose down pillows and duvet, which were on an even further discount offer. Getting them home and arranging them on the beds with the new linen, was satisfying and the girls seem pleased with my choice.

The problem became apparent a few days later when every time I went in to wake them up for school, they would grasp the duvet even more firmly and decide that they were too comfortable to want to get up! Since it was so cold outside I didnt blame them, although I did get annoyed that I had to get up even earlier in order to spend more time waking them up. My oldest has always been a hard child to wake up and loves her sleep, although she refuses to nap during the day and when she was six we had a deal that I would not force her to nap as long as she didnt complain about feeling tired early in the evening.

However the Hungarian goose down duvet seems to have put a spell on her and the other day she told me that she was going to snuggle down for a short nap, before starting her homework. As for my younger two, they are also loathing to relinquish the comfort of their beds in the mornings and snuggle down even deeper when I try to pull the duvet of them. On the weekends they drag their Hungarian goose down duvet downstairs and wrap themselves in it while watching TV, while I tell them off for making the lounge look messy and their beds look bare since they often drag their Hungarian goose down pillows downstairs too and the little one makes den out of them in the living room. At least I dont have to take them upstairs!
