Sleeping Problems affecting your grades? Find out why using your computer at night may be the cause
Using a computer late at night can cause sleeping problems. If you're tired all the time then you won't be able to get the best grades. If you don't get the best grades you won't get the best jobs. In the current climate it is difficult enough to find the job you always dreamed of. Make sure you give yourself the best chance of getting top grades.
Do I have to give up my computer?
NO you don't have to give up your computer I know that's unrealistic. It's just about modifying use. By the way this also goes for your television. The advice here also applies to any bright screen so if you're playing on your games console or playing on your smart phone it all counts.
I know there's pressure on young people today. Have you seen the latest film, played the latest game (if so what's your highest score), got the latest app, read the latest celebrity update on twitter. Your friends expect you to be on Facebook and other social networking sites into the early hours. The problem is that this impacts sleep not just because you spend longer than you intend to on the computer but also because the light from screens affects your brains workings.
So if you want bad grades and the dead end job (if you can get one) then stop reading. If not read on.
Bright light from a screen can affect the functioning of the pineal gland. This means it can take longer for us to get to sleep. Bright light can also suppress the release of melatonin which plays a crucial role in regulating our body clock. In short looking at a bright screen means it can take longer to get to sleep. Power down for 1 hour before bed. Turn off your electronic gadgets at least an hour before you go to bed.
Young students are already sleep deprived and have trouble sleeping. Into your late teens you should be working off 8 to 9 hours of sleep a night. Most students don't get that kind of sleep. The issue here is that the last part of a full and good nights sleep is rich in REM (dream) sleep. REM sleep helps the brain to process information. It creates associations and acts as an automatic clear out of useless information. It's like a daily cleaning and cleansing of all your computer files imagine if you had that in real life wow. The final part of sleep is also associated with spindle rich stage 2 sleep which has been shown to boost memory and learning. So you can see why getting enough sleep is important.
Leave others to waste their time on the computer late at night. After all they are competition when it comes to the job market. I can also give you lots more really important hints and tips to make sure you get the best possible night sleep and all the benefits that come from that.
