On the contrary, if you choose another type of door, you need to respect more limitations as far as the position of furniture and furnishings is considered: when you open the door, indeed, it might touch other objects in the room, and when you install a hinged door, you need to consider not only the space occupied by the door, but also the space that it requires when it is open.

You do not have such problems if you choose a sliding door. On the market you can find many types of sliding doors, of different models and materials. There are two main types of sliding doors: pocket doors and wall slide doors. In the first case the door disappears completely into the wall, entering a counter frame that is built inside the partition. The main advantage of this type of door is given by its capacity to disappear completely, leaving the space completely free. Once the door has entered the counter frame, you do not notice anymore! However, this type of sliding doors also has some disadvantages, above all during renovation works, in the case you decide to replace it to a pre-existent hinged door. In this case, indeed, it is necessary to break the wall to build the counter frame, and the walls are not always thick enough.

In the case the walls of your house are not thick enough for the structure of a pocket door, or if you would like not to make too invasive works, the perfect choice for you might be wall slide doors, which are installed on a roller system that is mounted externally, from the top. This solution makes you save space and choose the furniture with less limitations, as happens with pocket doors, but the disadvantage that pocket doors do not have is that wall slide doors do not disappear completely. However, you can try to turn this disadvantage into an advantage, transforming the door into something useful to decorate your room. In this case you can play with colours, for example.

The decision about the type of sliding door to buy pocket or wall slide doors depends on your taste but above all on the dimension and shape of your house and rooms. In any case, no matter the type of sliding door you choose, you can be certain that you will save space!
