Slight rise in financial services job opportunities in October 2010

The latest London Employment Monitor published today by professional recruitment consultancy Morgan McKinley indicated that London's financial services sector registered a +5% increase in job opportunities from 4,725 in September to 4,977 in October 2010. Other important points mentioned in the report;

Important points:

Job availability increased compared to the same time last year, with a rise of +13% from 4,410 in October 2009.

Number of professionals in the financial services sector looking for jobs decreased from 10,850 in September to 9,100 in October.

October showed a 5% increase in job availability indicating an overall improved confidence across the sector, following an increase in GDP in the UK in September.

Time to fill roles was relatively short, 52 days in October 2010, which is likely to increase over the quarter as many hiring decisions will be completed into the New Year. Despite this a rise in new jobs at the start of 2011 is definitely a positive indicator for recruitment activity in Q1 2011.

City salaries decreasing by 4% from 53,400 to 51,248 in October 2011. Although average salaries at all levels have shown trends of rises and falls throughout the year, similarly to the variations in job availability throughout the year.
