Slow Computer and Windows Update Problems: A Little Experience
Is your slow running computer having trouble with the windows operating system not updating?
When you can't update your Windows files and your computer runs slow.. here are some ideas and experiences we've had. If you have seen anything like the shots below you know what I am talking about.
Most computers are set to do an automatic update of the Windows OS and you may not even know you have been updated. There are usually several updates each month that will fix problems that have been discovered by Windows. These fixes are mostly compatibility of software issues.
I ran into a situation with this computer where there was a problem caused by the printer driver that made it and Windows not able to work together. The printer would say to update and check with Windows and then Windows would say the problems was with HP, the printer.
The printer would send me online to download updates only to have the computer, or Windows, say that the installation could not be completed. I was going in a circle. The printer would then send me to a list of things to check for and do such as reboot computer, reboot printer, check for Windows updates again, etc.
It seemed to me that HP just had too many things running. I've seen this on several other computers as well where the whole suite of printer functions: print, copy, scan, fax, and edit pictures, to name a few, all get out of sync. I recommend not letting a printer load everything onto your computer that it wants to. Only set up the functions you plan to use. If you are not going to be doing faxing then don't install that part of the driver. But I also realize that it is hard to figure this out when you are setting up a new printer or printer / copier / scanner unit.
What had to be done to this computer was really not very complicated and it is something you can do to your computer as well. Reinstalling the printer's driver did not work. I had to un-install the printer driver for the "all-in-one" unit. This is done in the Control Panel under Programs (or Install / Uninstall Programs). I then reinstalled the driver using the disk that came with it and updated Windows.
