If you want to fix a slow computer but you're not really sure on how to go about doing it, this article may be able to help you out. #1 Defragment your hard drives

If you're running a Microsoft Windows operating system it comes with system tools to help clean up your computer's files. One of these tools is the Disk Defragmenter, a tool that will compress the files and programs in your hard drives to streamline its processing. #2 Close any unused programs

Another thing that you can do to make your computer run a lot faster is to close any background programs that you aren't using. You can view all of the running programs in your system by opening the Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Del), close the programs that you know you aren't using to free up some of your computer's resources.

#3 Run the Utility Scan on your Windows computer

This is the tool you can use to check if there are any errors in your hard drive. Right-click on any of your hard drives and click on Properties, under the Tools tab you will find the Error Checker.

#4 Close any desktop animations and special graphical settings

Keep the appearance of your desktop minimal, meaning you close all of the unnecessary visual enhancements like animated wallpapers, 3D objects, special fonts, etc. to free some of your computer's resources so that they can be used for more important things. You can turn off the visual enhancements by right clicking on My Computer then properties. Click on the advanced settings and then toggle the necessary things in the Performance menu.

#5 Scan the registry and fix any problems

Windows has an internal database called the Windows registry. Whenever you install or remove any program the entries in the registry get fragmented and sometimes they even get corrupted. When there are too many errors in the registry it will cause your computer to greatly lower in processing speed.

To make sure that there are no registry errors in your computer, your best course of action is to get a system and registry scanner program to scan and fix any errors in your computer and the registry. The cause of most computers slowing down is because the registry is full of errors, so much so that the computer finds it hard to find the entry that it needs and ultimately crashes.

By simply doing the five steps mentioned above you are most likely to make your computer run as if it was still brand new and get a slow computer fix in less than an hour in most cases.
