The following are some tips you can do to trim the edge of your carpet.

The first thing you have to do is to measure the carpet's thickness by using measuring tape. You have to leave the spacer of about inch thinner than your carpet. As the scraper, you can use wood scraps or cardboard.

Put that spacer against the wall and then arrange the tackless strips making a line along the wall. Hold it away off the wall using the spacer. Then, nail those tackless strips into the wall with the tacks angle to the wall. In addition, you can cut those tackless strips to fit using handsaw. Avoid making sharp tacks using your fingers.

Then, let the carpet pad flush against the tackless strip edge by cutting it under the carpet using a utility knife. The next thing to do is measuring the carpet against the wall and trimming it using the utility knife. It will leave the carpet which is only enough to fold on the tackless strip top into the gap between the wall and the strip.

The last thing to do is to stretch the edge of the trimmed carpet on the tackless strip. Then, push that carpet into the gap between the wall and the strip using a putty knife. It helps you trim the edge of the carpet.
